Glam Gone Wrong (aka "Trashy Glam")
Day 14 of AEM and NaBloPoMo and posting pictures and Yoga
I hope you are laughing!
I started thinking about 80's Glam, Big Hair, Big Jewelry, Big make up. So I got out my gold and teased my hair and tried to put on some dark make up and glitter (but it didn't show up so well in the pictures) and had a photo shoot. I thought these were coming out pretty good, but once I saw them on the computer I was scared! I look like trash!!!
My Mom gave me the gold nameplate on my 16th birthday and the gold bangle that same year for Christmas.
I have a little story about the sweater;
My Mom use to work as the operations manager at this trendy SoHo boutique called Tehen. I would visit her about once a month and have lunch with her or one of my old friends (How I miss you Manhattan!) The last time I was visiting her was when I was pregnant with Ethan. I saw this sweater in blue on a mannequin pinned tightly paired with a beautiful black skirt. I said casually to my Mom oh I like that sweater. That year for Christmas my Mom bought me the sweater in red. I smiled and thanked her, but I was thinking you bought me a fluffy red sweater to wear after I just had a baby? I am big as a house, where am I going to wear that thing?
I have worn the sweater only a handful of times; usually on a Holiday. Even though it is parent-teacher conference day I am wearing the sweater today because it makes me feel closer to my Mom (and it is very cozy).
This has made me realize that just because I admire something doesn't mean I want it as my own. Sometimes I admire another person's job, or ambition, or talent, or life, but that doesn't mean I want their life; I am happy with my own.
I thought I needed one more picture to balance out the trashy ones. When I walked over to where Maggie was playing I saw this.

aw. you dont look trashy....you just need to learn what your "angle" is. and then match up facial expressions with it...oh...and phot shop helps alot as well.

Is it just me, or should there be at least a little more height difference between the dinosaur and the ballerina?? Maybe he's a dwarf dinosaur... lol
The 80s looks had me CRACKING UP!!!!! But at least you had fun, right?

GREAT glam Melba ~ this was perfect with the nameplate necklace. I miss Manhattan too!!
I also miss the little dioramas that my girl would put together when she was Maggie's age. I loved that.

The 80s were so much fun! I love big hair, LOL. I'm glad you went retro for a bit Melba and just had fun with it.
I agree, there are many things I admire and like but they don't necessarily suit me. This is very wise!
I love the dancing doll and dino, what fun.

Oh my gosh. What awesome pics. LOL And yes, I was laughing for sure...and thinking how great you are for doing this. Fun, fun, fun. Love the bling. lol
It's really a profound observation that you made in the midst of the 80s glam thing. It's something that I am only now learning myself in my 40s. I can appreciate other people's talents without feeling less-than because I don't have the same ones. I can appreciate the beauty of things without needing them to be mine. Learning this 20 years ago would have saved me (and others) so much grief!!

I've just realised that last photo is a great version of Beauty and the Beast.

Those top photos are hilarious. I think you nailed the '80's glam look in the third one, but the first couple sort of look like I remember looking after long nights of clubbing back when I was much younger and still single. :-)
I LOVE the photo of you with your kids. In that one you look truly beautiful.

LOL - I was gonna say the same thing as BAZL - total Courtney Love, babydoll, grungey looking glam!! All you needed was running mascara.
The sweater is lovely!

The first one looks like a mug shot. Like after a night of drinking you got pulled in to the station. haha.

Oh am I EVER laughing! First of all Maggie is a complete cutie. that is so cute with the dinosaur dancing with her doll.
And you- Oh did I ever laugh. I was not expecitng that! Haha. Glam gone wrong indeed. It's awesome that you have a sense of humour and don't take yourself too seriously. Too many people take themselves too seriously.
thank you for the great chuckles!

WOW! What a treat--I've read TWO posts here in ONE day! I love it!
The necklace, the gold bangle, the hair, the cleavage--dang, girl!!! Ahhh, you make me laugh in such a good way. I'm imagining your impromptu Halloween in November and thinking that it must be fun at your house! I had to laugh again when I thought about the contrast between the first pictures and the one with your kids. oh, you are a woman of many colors! ;)
ps.
What is that dinosaur doing to little Twinkle Toes?! Help! :)- haha! I hope they're just dancing!

Oh I had a good giggle here:)
Sympathize on the xmas gift giving thing. I am under the same sort of issue. My mil asked today if we wanted to change from buying for everyone. We are also the lowest income in my husbands family.

Yep. I'm laughing! What fun pictures - trashy though they may be! (I like the comment someone else said of "Courtney Love glam"!)
I also like that you balanced it with a photo of the "normal" you with Maggie and Ethan!
And your realization is such an important one! There are a lot of things I admire, think I want, whatever, but when it comes down to it, I like my life as it is!! I wouldn't trade my simplicity for "stuff" and complications ever!

Oh, you have no idea! I totally cracked up when i opened up your page:) This is by FAR my favoritest (its a word, I swear!!!) post so far... Something about them remind me of a police station photo... what are those called??? And that last photo of maggie's toys... priceless!

These shots are hilarious. I love trashy 80's glam. With that being said, I'm glad you included the ones with your kids ~ it's more real. Beautiful!

Courtney Love style glam!
While perhaps it was unintentional it's a great take on the theme.
