Mother who died in my arms, I said good by to a 30 year art career as a
folk artist on the art circuit to sell and paint as a Independent folk
artist , So come and travel the road back to my childhood days where
the late afternoon drifts into long shadows and where I paint the
memories of my days gone by. my family canning, making moon shine, the
chain gang,working in the fields.email
me with orders and questions. be sure to see purple cucumbers who is
creating altered art hats and play sets in a tin.Check out my new blog

1) tell me about your art? what you like to do and share in it?
My art
is my mother and her legacy. She died in my arms in 2005.Because of her
way of life and what she tought me like how to can,how to gather roots
and herbs to heal sick folk mshe left me the gift of being able to tell
these stories threw art so I share my life and that of my mother.
She
made my first canvases by boiling rabbit bones in water and dipping
pieces of cloth in them.My paints was made from syrup mixed with
mud, flowers, roots, flower and anything else we could find for me to
create. My first drawings was done in the dirt down by rhe cotton fields
with a stick as a child. What I like to do is create whatever happens to
capture me at the moment, paint, draw, paper and glitter, sticks anything I
can use to create what I am feeling and than can be any medium or
matter to use,nature or paint.
2) What are the most important messages in your art?
The
truth of a sharecroppers daughter, by that I mean I paint from my heart
with real depth and feelings, not just to create to sell. I wont folks to
be touched when they see my art in whatever medium I use.
3)which
are your best life lessons?why?Life itself. Why?
Because throught life
and hard times I have learned to persevere and not be afraid to try.I
do not whine and cry but just get up and say ok lets get going and one
step at a time.Life is to full to live and things to do ,theres just no
time to feel sorry for myself,I have better things to do and enjoy.
4) where
do you make art( any picture?) how is the atmosphere,do you put
music,how do you begin?
My art is created in my studio. Will send
photo. It is filled with trinkets and treasures that mean something to
me and a old pie safe that was handed down through generations.Music, candles
and incense, colors and textures,I have a chair I sat in and I spend a
few minutes relaxing with a Mountain Dew or chocolate. I let my art tell
me which direction to go by listing to my inner heart and soul. Many
times I will have more than one piece going.
When a piece finally begins to emerge then I can decide what direction to go and what texture and mediums to use.
5) what are some material/art supplies you
can't live without?
Nature, because nature has such beautiful texture and color. As for store bought materials, paper, pen and paint.
6) What
would be the music of your most favourite artwork( by you of
course)
No human has ever been able to
capture my art in music, it is such a part of me and the air that I
breath it would be impossible. I live my art, I breath it, I adore it. My
art to me is like a sunbeam and when i paint I am in a world where only I can be me. My art is the music and only I can hear it when I
create. does that make sense?
7) Have you traveled a lot ,where would you like to go and why?
I
have done a good bit of traveling, but now I am content and happy to stay
here at home in a little country town and enjoy my simple, unpressured
life and be happy with each day.
8) tell me about the artist you
admire and what they have brought to your own art?
My mother, the artist
and what she brought was the gift to see life, nature and the world
through open eyes so I could create. Each and everything has its own
beauty if you know how to look for it.
9) what talent would you dream to have?
thank goodness darling,I already have it but another talent I'd like to do know ballet dancing.
10)Have
you already had a life exhibition ,to show your art in a gallery ?
Yes and I was able to
show my art along with MaMa's and the art of Grand Ma Moses in a
Museum. It was like stepping on a cloud to be able to have my art there!
OH you should also see the art of Lisa Cain! Mary
